We still have some of Eleanor Powell's personal tap shoes. These would have been worn during her comeback act between 1959-1963. Each pair was made for specifically for Eleanor Powell.
Each shoe is part of tap dance history, and, as dance preservationist Rusty Frank notes:
"They are like an archeological dig... so many elements of it are fascinating. The sinker taps in the heel, the heel brace, the taps nailed in, that plate (where rubber usually goes). Fascinating."
And ,as Rusty likes to point out, "Her DNA is on them!!! Wow!"
